The G8 University Summit - Guidelines for the Media Organization/Personnel -

The G8 University Summit will be held during June 29 to July 1, 2008 in Sapporo, Hokkaido.
We would ask each media organization/personnel to register in advance.

1. Outline of the G8 University Summit

In the G8 University Summit, the presidents of research universities that play leading roles in academia will gather from the G8 nations and other major industrialized countries as well as major emerging economies, under the theme of ‘Global Sustainability and the Role of Universities’.

The discussion will be focused on how we take on the challenge in the ‘sustainability’ as the global and human issues. The G8 University Summit is going to propose the outcome of the discussion as ‘Sapporo Sustainability Declaration (SSD)’. We hope that the results of the discussion will be supported by the G8 and other international consensus-building processes to achieve global sustainability.

  1. Duration: June 29 to July 1, 2008
  2. Venue: Keio Plaza Hotel Sapporo (Kita 5, Nishi 7, Chuo-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido)
  3. Host: Organizing Committee of the G8 University Summit
  4. Theme: Global Sustainability and the Role of Universities
  5. Participation: Representatives (President, Vice-Chancellor, etc.) of the 37 universities from 14 countries and an international organization

2. Advanced Media Registration

(1) Guideline of the coverage activities

June 29 (Sun)
Welcome Party 19:00 – 20:30
Plaza Hall (Basement Floor), Keio Plaza Hotel Sapporo
  • Please be aware not to cause any inconvenience to other participants when engaging in the coverage activities.
June 30 (Mon)
Opening Ceremony and Plenary Sessions
9:00 – 12:00 EMINENCE Hall (2nd Floor)
Parallel Session A and B
13:00 – 17:30 MIYABI Room and OHGI Room (3rd Floor)
  • Please be aware not to prevent the progress of the Opening Ceremony and Plenary Sessions when engaging in the coverage activities. Please refrain from using cameras at the Parallel Sessions.
  • Media Organization/Personnel are requested to engage in the designated area.
July 1 (Tue)
Plenary Session
9:00 – 11:30 EMINENCE Hall (2nd Floor)
Press Conference
11:30 – 12:00 ROSE Room (2nd Floor)
  • Please refrain from using cameras at the Plenary Sessions.
  • Media Organization/Personnel are requested to engage in the designated area.
  • Media Organization/Personnel are welcome to attend the Press Conference. 

The detailed ‘Guideline of the coverage activities’ will be sent to the registered E-mail address or Fax.

(2) Registration

All Media Organization and Media Personnel must send the ‘Registration Form for Media Organization/Personnel’ by June 12, Thursday either by Fax or E-mail.

Please be aware that the Media Organization/Personnel not registered in advance will no be accepted for engaging coverage activities during the G8 University Summit.

Registration from each personnel from the Media Organization is limited within 5 persons due to space restrictions; therefore, please note that depending on the circumstances, we may not be able to accept all of your requested staff members.

Please also note that we may ask you to submit with your company ID card at the time of your registration.

(3) Reception Desk

The registered Media Organization/Personnel is requested to wear the ID card which will be provided upon your arrival at the Reception Desk, which is located in the Keio Plaza Hotel Sapporo.
